Animal Care

The City of Los Alamitos contracts for Animal Control with Long Beach Animal Care Services. Residents can report animal issues to Long Beach Animal Care Services by calling (562)570-PETS (7387).

Dog License Required

Dog licenses for the City of Los Alamitos can be obtained by contacting Long Beach Animal Care Services. Los Alamitos Municipal Code § 6.08.010 requires all dogs over the age of 4 months be licensed. Dog licensing laws actually came about for public safety reasons, primarily to make sure dogs are up to date on rabies vaccinations. It can also be their ticket home.

Leash Law

Los Alamitos Municipal Code § 6.16.100 requires that you keep your dog on a leash when on any public street, park, or other public place. The leash cannot be more than eight-feet long and must be held continuously in the hands of a person capable of controlling the dog.

Dogs must be kept on leash when in City Parks. To enjoy your pet off-leash, go to a dog park or other area which has been designated for that purpose. Arbor Dog Park is located off Lampson Avenue, east of Seal Beach Blvd.

Los Alamitos Municipal Code § 6.16.200 holds dog owners responsible for picking up after their dogs

Dog Noise

Los Alamitos Municipal Code § 6.16.110  no person shall permit any dog under his control to bark, howl, whine and make other loud and unusual noises, whether within a building or enclosure, tied, or otherwise confined, or while at large upon any public street, so as to annoy and become offensive to the neighborhood or persons residing immediately surrounding the habitation of the same.
