Workplace Violence Prevention Plan

Upon enactment into law, Senate Bill (SB) 553 modified Cal/OSHA to require employers to establish and implement by July 1, 2024, an effective Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (“WVPP”) and to provide effective training to employees on the requirements under the new law. (Lab. Code §§ 6401.7, 6401.9.)

The Division of Occupational Safety and Health (“Division” or “DOSH”) is responsible for the enforcement of the California Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1973 (“Cal/OSHA”). Cal/OSHA imposes legal obligations on employers related to maintaining safe and healthful working conditions for their employees. (Lab. Code §§ 6300-6725.) Included in the requirements is an obligation to establish, implement, and maintain an effective Injury and Illness Prevention Program (“IIPP”). (8 CCR § 3203.)
