Economic Development is at the heart of the Development Services Department. The fiscal stability of Los Alamitos and its local business community is the mission of this division that leads the City's business attraction and retention efforts. It serves proudly as the point of contact for people seeking local assistance with site selection, market and demographic information, and business resources. Economic Development Programs
Mayor's Business Spotlight
The Mayor's Business Spotlight program is a complimentary initiative aimed at promoting local businesses within the City of Los Alamitos. It serves to raise awareness about the diverse range of businesses operating in our community. This program allows the city to express gratitude, highlight outstanding businesses in Los Al, and provide additional resources to support their growth within our city.
The Mayor's Business Spotlight involves a brief two to three-minute on-camera interview, which will premiere on our City of Los Alamitos Facebook Page and YouTube Channel. Please note that certain businesses, such as cannabis-related enterprises and online food delivery services, are not eligible to participate. Business Visitation Program
This program aims to strengthen communication between the city and local businesses by facilitating direct interactions. City staff dedicate time to meet with business owners to discuss their operations, explore opportunities, and address challenges they may be facing. This initiative also provides a platform for business owners to voice questions or concerns they may have.
Enhancing engagement with businesses enables the department to pinpoint areas where support can be provided effectively.
Good Evening, Los Alamitos!
The City of Los Alamitos invites the community to Good Evening, Los Alamitos, a community-focused city event open to the public, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how the city operates. Residents can explore various city departments, meet staff, and learn about the services and programs available. It's a great opportunity to connect with local leaders and discover all that Los Alamitos has to offer.
Good Morning, Los Alamitos!
The City of Los Alamitos is fostering a culture of meaningful engagement that is inclusive, consistent, and transparent for our community. We are excited to introduce "Good Morning, Los Alamitos!", an informal gathering where residents, business owners, and City leaders and staff can come together. This event provides a relaxed setting to ask questions, chat with fellow community members, and stay informed about developments in Los Al.

New Business Welcome Program
The department is currently developing a new business welcome program aimed at ensuring new businesses feel warmly welcomed. This initiative includes personally visiting and extending a warm welcome to all businesses that have recently opened or relocated to our city. Each new business receives a welcome gift containing valuable information and resources available within the city. This program aims to support new businesses as they establish themselves in our community.
Pine StrEATs - Eat, Drink and Celebrate Los Al Restaurants
The Pine StrEATs Program was established as a initiative aimed at empowering restaurants, including home-based food-related businesses to showcase their culinary offerings at the Celebrate Los Al event. Participants are eligible for grants of up to $5,000, which can be used towards marketing and to cover food costs. This event enables them to feature a delightful array of local dishes, providing attendees with a unique opportunity to savor a diverse range of culinary delights all in one location.
Nites on Pine
Nites on Pine is a vibrant community event designed to support local businesses and strengthen economic development in Los Alamitos. Held once a month over summer on Pine Street, this lively evening market features live music, family-friendly activities, and opportunities to shop small and connect with the local community.
Discover Los Alamitos
The City of Los Alamitos is excited to launch Discover Los Alamitos, an Economic Development initiative that highlights our vibrant small businesses. This initiative aims to spotlight the unique local spots that make our community special, including places to eat, shop, play, and support. By connecting residents and visitors to the heart of Los Alamitos, we aim to build a stronger, more engaged community.
